Hello, everybody welcome back to red elevator, i’m nina and today we are going to have a very, very fun episode and we are going to get a sneak peek into what i thought. I was never going to show anyone on youtube, but i guess design comes before privacy apparently, so we are going to look at my master bedroom, how i designed it and how you can create the sanctuary you have been dreaming of so follow me and let’s get right into the master bedroom.Since all of you always ask me, my outfit will be linked below in the comment section, and today i am wearing this great black and white shoe by rag and bone. I am wearing these wonderful pants from and something that i’m really excited about that.
I am wearing today is my gorgeous silk shirt from lily silk, and what i love about this shirt is that it is cut to perfection. It fits me beautifully. It comes in a variety of colors, and so i need to have every color by the way, i think black and white are probably the best, and i love the way that it fits on my body and the way that it is truly [.welcome to my master bedroom. This is one of the most important rooms in your home and it should be treated as such, and what i wanted to do in this room is, i wanted to create a very monochromatic, very comfortable, very calm room where i can relax after a very busy day At work and what i decided to do and what i want to share with you guys today, is how and why i designed the room.
The way that i did, and i hope you guys can get the takeaway that you need in designing your own master bedroom. The most important piece in a master bedroom, i believe, is the master bed. You have to start with the master bed and then everything else will come into play.If you’re doing a four poster bed, it’s, a different scenario. In this case, i wanted an upholstered bed, which i designed and really put a lot of time and effort into this design, because i wanted to fit the way that i live in the way that i like to relax. So i wanted to be fully upholstered because i don’t want to hit my foot on the bed. I don’t want to have to hit any hard edges and i wanted to make sure that it looked like it was floating. So i designed a very comfortable bed, but before i get into the design of the bed, what is also really important is what you put on the bed, these sheets, that i chose.
Everything will be linked below, of course, so that you guys can also have access to these wonderful products, but i wanted everything to work together. I wanted the headboard, the footboard, meaning the bed itself to match these decorative pillows, but before i get into that, i think it’s, critical that i mentioned to you guys how important it is regarding how you sleep. These are my absolute favorite pillows on the planet. These are gorgeous: silk, pillowcases from lily silk. And what’s really amazing about it. Is that when you sleep here at night, you feel cool. The silk is breathable. You’re, not going to get wrinkles over time. Let me tell you guys it’s really important. When you’re spending, eight hours a night on your side or or you know back and forth on your pillow, you want to make sure that you do not get wrinkles.
So it’s very important women. If you’re going to sleep, you must use silk, pillow cases and the lilly silk. Pillow cases are by far one of the best because of the fact that they’re breathable silk. They’re, really soft to the touch and they really do not create any creases in your face and it ‘Ll really provide a very comfortable night’s, sleep, not to mention the fact that you’re. Going to wake up feeling very refreshed to get your very own set of lily, silk pillow cases, please click the link below we talked previously about how to style your bed and the way that i like to do it is that i always like to have the Duvet folded nicely at the bottom of the bed, it just looks cleaner, it looks nicer and then a quilted blanket, which will also be linked below on your bed.
This way you can moderate, if you’re cold or if you’re hot and you have the ability to sleep very comfortably. An absolute must-have in every bedroom is a bench, a foot bench by your bed. There are many reasons why you would want it a sometimes my husband sits here and chats with me without having to actually jump on the bed or you throw actually your pillows on the bench at night. While you’re sleeping, so nothing is on the floor and looks a mess, so this bench i actually got an estate sale. It was from this very old, beautiful 1920s house in beverly hills and it was a mahogany color.
I bought it. I think it was 75 i bought it. I grabbed it and i painted it, and i made this custom cushion that i just threw on here actually, and it is upholstered in the exact same fabric as the bed.So again it’s, uniform it’s monochromatic, and it is just how i wanted it. One of the reasons why i did custom design this bed. Not everything has to be custom, but there are times when you need to custom make.Something is that i wanted this bed to feel like it was floating. I didn’t want it to feel heavy, which is why i use these gorgeous acrylic feet. On the bed so that it did give this bed a sense of lightness, the edges are curved again in case somebody stumbles too into it.In the middle of the night they don’t hurt themselves. So i did like the fact that it was curved because the room is linear, but it also really prevents stumbling into the bed and, as you can see there’s.No way to stumble your foot onto this bed, the other consideration is the headboard, and i had these very long sort of seams, both in the headboard and the footboard that were created in order to give it some of that art deco vibe.
The architectural elements in this house have a touch of art deco in them, and so in order to bring that into the furniture and really make things uh uniform. I decided to put in these seams these vertical seams that you see in both the headboard and the footboard, so it really brings the era together. These nightstands are actually end tables. They are not nightstands. As you guys know, i have issues with nightstands. They’re, either the wrong height. They’re, either the wrong shape they’re, either the wrong size, etc.
So one trick is to actually forget nightstands and go directly for end tables. These i found at an estate sale. It was an 80s house gorgeous house 80s house with these gorgeous crazy couches, which of course, i didn’t want or need, but i did need the pen tables. These end tables are on top of the fact that they are the perfect color. Since i decided to go with a rose, sort of a dirty rose color for this room, they are also laminated. So what does that mean? They are indestructible and i can put my glass of water.I can put my glass of hot tea and not even worry about anything happening to these end tables, but what’s really great is that i didn’t even have to make them. I didn’t even have to source them. I didn’t have to design them.
They were there. They were perfect. I grabbed them. So if you cm tables at an estate, sale know that you can also use them as nightstands. These lamps, although they look new, believe it or not. These are frederick cooper lamps from the 70s.They are original. I can’t believe i found them. I found them on ebay and i found two of them from two different people and luckily they match so again. Things that you find in the past come back into the future and that’s.Why it’s, always good to be on the hunt to find the perfect items for any space. Having a seating area in a master bedroom is really a wonderful thing, because you’ll notice that you will actually spend a lot of time in your master bedroom and not in the bed and perhaps in a sitting area.
I use the sitting area. Quite a bit, i love it because of the fact that in the winter it has a fireplace i can put my feet up. I can read a book or i actually work here, sometimes on my laptop, and it was really important when designing the space with the architect to create that quaintness in a larger room. And so we created what is called a rotunda a room in itself. That is round that is very cozy and again i wanted to bring the color. My dusty rose that i love into the sculptural lighting fixture here.
This is by arterios, and it really works well with this low again keeping the height of your coffee table, always in unison, with the seat height. You want to keep everything very well thought out so that it looks like you, didn’t, give much thought to it, so that’s! The irony, if you do it well, it’ll.Look like it ‘ S meant to be my favorite thing to do in the day when i wake up is to open these curtains and really let the natural light in we’re lucky to have just unobstructed views of the mountains here and when it comes to curtains.
I always like to have a nice sort of sheer behind my curtains, because the light can be very strong. The way that this house faces the sun, so these shears really prevent it from being glaring in the room, so they have a dual purpose: they soften the room and if you don’t want them, you could certainly hide them behind the curtains um.I always do a ripple fold. I tend to do a ripple fold in houses that are more transitional and i would say that this house is a bit more transitional. So again, i’m, going to have my ripple fold curtains because they’re easy to manage.
They’re, easy to open and close. They have very clean lines and they look really great in this space. The credenza under my television is by the way this is my favorite tv of all time. This is the lg 4k television linked below because you’ve, never seen picture this good.I ‘ Ve actually done another video about this. So if you’re interested in this television, you should definitely check out this one now back to the credenza. This is milo baffman. I got this at first dibs.I have to um admit this was a bit of a splurge, but you can do a bit of a splurge when you’re buying an 80 end table. It’s all about knowing where to put the money. This piece will only go up in value, it is timeless, it is made in the 70s and it is gorgeous.I love it. It’s in great condition. I take very good care of it. My husband’s not allowed to put his fingers on it because i don’t like fingerprints, and we use, of course, the brass hardware in order to open and close it.
But it looks great and it reflects more importantly, it reflects the colors that i am trying to evoke in this room. So, although it’s, mirrored it’s got a little bit of a smoke to it, and so the dusty rose sort of projects, the light um off of the mirror into the room and vice versa.I love having great scents in a bedroom, not in a formal room, because you don’t want to make sense near a kitchen that will ruin the palette if you’re having dinner near a scented candle but in the master bedroom.I always always rely on something that is scented and my favorite item is this deep teak electric diffuser, you literally just push it and then a gorgeous aroma sort of expels into the room and makes you feel like you are in a beautiful faraway hotel.Thank you for joining me on this episode of red elevator. I hope you enjoyed the tour of my master bedroom, this crazy monochromatic room that i absolutely love. I would want to know if you were to design a monochromatic master bedroom. What color you would like, or what color you would choose? Would it be dusty rosa? Would it be a different color, so make sure and comment below do not forget to subscribe? Give it a thumbs up. I read all of your comments and i hope everybody stays safe and i can’t wait to share with you what i’ve got cooking for next week.
